CASTING CALL: A Dallas Hedda

Bishop Arts Theatre Center is casting for A Dallas Hedda, a reimagining of Ibsen's Hedda Gabler by playwright-in-residence Franky D. Gonzalez. This production explores the psyche of a woman longing for freedom from a world that seeks to control her, continuing the conversation Ibsen began through the lens of race, religion, feminism, and social class.

Character Breakdown:

Hedda – White, late 20s - early 30s. Manipulative, dissatisfied, and harboring a dark and complex past. Must be able to dance well.

George – Black, same age as Hedda. Hedda’s husband, a hopeful academic vying for tenure at a local Christian college. Naïve and eager to please. A total blerd.

Brock – White, 30s. An administrator at the college and friend of George and Hedda. Cynical and opportunistic.

Elliot – Latino, late 20s - early 30s. A reformed alcoholic, former college sweetheart of Hedda, celebrated writer, and contender for the tenure position.

Talia – Latina, mid to late 20s. Elliot’s supportive partner, who helped him overcome his struggles.
