Character Descriptions:
MEL JACKSON 20, Black American, star sprinter, cisgender woman. Sports governing bodies would likely label Mel either intersex and/or hyperandrogenic, though Mel does not use either term to identify herself. She does not dress the way the other women sprinters around her dress, opting instead for gear that does more to cover her frame. At no point during the play does Mel describe herself in specific terms, even as other characters speculate and make assumptions about her body. Mel is Mel, and she resists the pressure to describe what being "Mel" means -- other than loving to run.
GRACE KENNEDY 22, Black American, star sprinter. Cisgender woman, femme, deeply committed to a vast number of causes.
KEISHA HARRINGTON 18, Black American, rising star sprinter. A Cisgender woman, young and righteous, acts a little corny but not as naive as she may seem.
COURTNEY SKIDMORE A.k.a. "Skids": 23, white American, excellent sprinter, cisgender woman. A kindly narcissist, if such a combination is possible.
ELENA PETRUSCHENKOV 26, white, Russian, cisgender woman. Star sprinter with dubious morals.
NORA KAAS 25, star sprinter, white Swedish cisgender woman, a self-described passionate feminist.
JAMIE SACKETT 22, British star sprinter, white, cisgender woman.
LESLIE late 30s/early 40s, WADA doping official, cisgender woman, Black American.
JO MEKKI 25, Black Sudanese world champion sprinting mega-star, cisgender woman, the epitome of athletic glamour.
